Building and operating a flexible Solaris infrastructure for an international private bank
For Société Générale Private Banking CND designed and implemented a new server infrastructure based on Oracle T-Systems. The goal was to technologically modernise an existing environment and at the same time create a foundation for efficient and scalable operation.
In the first step, CND developed a system design for virtualisation with LDOM and Solaris Zones as well as for the optimal distribution of the available server capacities. The concepts were refined iteratively together with the bank and optimised up to the final design approval.
Implementation took place first in a staging environment at CND, where the entire infrastructure was built and tested. After successful acceptance tests, the systems were transferred to the bank's data centre, installed and put into operation.
A key focus was on efficiency in operation. CND developed and implemented a flexible and largely automated deploy mechanism for Solaris zones as well as a structured basis for updates and patching, among other things via Live Upgrade. This allowed recurring operational tasks to be standardised and simplified.
In parallel, CND took on the role of technical point of contact for system- and operations-relevant questions and supported the organisation with targeted know-how.
To ensure sustainable operation, CND created comprehensive system documentation and automation scripts. These covered both administration and concrete operational processes, including detailed instructions for deployments, updates and infrastructure changes.
The new platform could be operated efficiently, expanded flexibly and managed independently in the long term. At the same time, the operational effort was reduced and transparency in operations increased.
