Hybrid library systems between operation and transformation
For the Vadiana Cantonal Library St. Gallen, CND operates a business-critical library system landscape based on Ex Libris. The environment comprises several systems, including Aleph, ARC, SFX and IDS18, and is distributed across several locations.
Part of the infrastructure is operated in the data centre of the University of St. Gallen, another central component in the data centre of CND AG. In this hybrid architecture, CND takes responsibility for central operational services at the Linux and Oracle level.
This includes maintenance and care of the systems, monitoring, ensuring backup and restore processes as well as structured support via defined service procedures. The goal is stable and traceable operation of the existing environment.
The particular challenge lies in the combination of ongoing operation and an upcoming transformation. The existing system landscape must continue to be operated reliably, while at the same time the replacement and migration towards the cloud is being prepared.
CND supports this process through targeted technical preparatory work. This includes, among other things, the cleansing and structuring of data as well as its preparation for migration. This reduces risks and creates the foundation for a controlled transition.
The systems can be operated stably and at the same time prepared step by step for the next phase. Operation and transformation interlock here without affecting each other.
