1 Inventory

The basis of a sustainable DCIM is an inventory of the IT infrastructure. Racks, servers, hubs, switches, power distributors, fuses, UPSs and generators are located according to their effective position on the floorplan of the data centre. The dependencies between these components are recorded and evaluated. Air conditioning units, extinguishing systems, cable trays round off the overall picture.

2 Surveillance

Real-time measurements and evaluations provide real-time insight into how changes affect costs and efficiency. The visual and simple presentation of alarm locations improves the efficiency of troubleshooting.

3 Operational Management

In order for a data centre to function smoothly and uninterrupted the processes of infrastructure changes must be clearly documented. Simple integration of DCIM into the management of operations is a prerequisite for building management, alarm management, emergency management, monitoring, maintenance and operation, failures in safety and risk minimisation.
